Latex Care & Comfort Guide

This guide is for informational purposes only and does not constitute medical advice. If you have a latex allergy or any skin condition, please consult a healthcare professional before wearing latex garments.

Putting On Your Latex

Getting into latex is much easier with a dressing aid. You have two main options:

  • Silicone-based lubricant – Apply a thin layer to the inside of the garment and/or your skin. This gives a smooth, long-lasting glide and is the preferred method for many wearers. Avoid oil-based products, as they can degrade latex over time.
  • Talcum (talc) powder – Dust a light coating onto the inside of the garment before dressing. Talc is a traditional method and works well, though it can leave residue on both the garment and skin.

Keep fingernails smooth and remove rings or other sharp jewellery before dressing, to avoid snagging the latex. Avoid wearing perfume or scented sprays with latex, and keep sprays away from the garment.

Work the garment on gradually, smoothing out any folds or trapped air as you go. Take your time — rushing can cause tears, especially at seams.

Heat & Sweating

Latex is non-breathable, so some warmth and sweating is completely normal and expected. Here's what to keep in mind:

  • Stay hydrated and take breaks in cool environments if you feel overheated.
  • Avoid wearing latex in direct sunlight for extended periods — heat can accelerate degradation and cause discomfort.
  • If you feel lightheaded, overly flushed, or unwell, remove the garment and cool down immediately.

When to Stop Wearing

Remove your latex garment straight away if you experience any of the following:

  • Redness, itching, rash, or hives on the skin
  • Difficulty breathing or chest tightness
  • Swelling, particularly around the face, lips, or throat
  • Dizziness, nausea, or feeling faint

These may be signs of a latex sensitivity or allergic reaction. Seek medical attention if symptoms are severe or do not resolve quickly after removal.

Washing Your Latex

After each wear, wash your latex to remove sweat, lubricant, and any residue:

  • Hand wash only — never use a washing machine or tumble dryer.
  • Use lukewarm water and a small amount of mild, unscented soap (or a dedicated latex cleaner).
  • Gently work the soap over the entire surface, inside and out.
  • Rinse thoroughly until no soap remains.
  • Avoid soaking for long periods.

Drying Your Latex

  • Hang or lay flat to air dry away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Ensure the garment is completely dry before storing.
  • Do not use a tumble dryer, hair dryer, or radiator.

Storing Your Latex

  • Once fully dry, lightly dust the garment with talc powder to prevent the latex from sticking to itself.
  • Store in a cool, dark place — away from UV light, heat, and humidity.
  • Keep latex garments away from metals (particularly copper and bronze), as these can cause permanent staining.
  • Store flat or loosely folded, or hang on a padded hanger. Avoid sharp creases.
  • Keep each garment in a dark bag or away from other latex pieces to prevent colour transfer. Especially the lighter colours such as white and baby pink.
